Teaching Experience

 

Associate Lecturer, Adjunct Professor:

Sculpture 1, UW-Milwaukee. 2006 Development and implementation of original course curriculum and syllabus. Sculpture I introduces students to the materials, processes and tools used to create sculpture. Students learn to develop unique and profound concepts and construct dynamic and interesting objects with high standards for craftsmanship. Processes covered; clay modeling, plaster and rubber mold making, plaster casting and carving, sheet metal fabrication, brazing, MIG welding, oxy/acetylene welding, plasma and gas cutting, woodshop tools, found objects and assemblage, installation and site work.

 

3D Concepts, UW-Milwaukee & UW-Parkside. 2005-2006 Development and implementation of original course curriculum and syllabus. 3D Concepts introduces art students to the formal qualities, principles and intellectual concepts of art and design as they apply to three-dimensional space. Students explore a variety of media and processes to develop technical skills. Lectures and slide presentations on art history and contemporary art theory introduced.  Management of course website, and arrangement of visiting professional artist lectures.

           

Advanced Sculpture, UW-Milwaukee. 2005 Development and implementation of original course curriculum and syllabus. Advanced sculpture introduces developing sculpture students to the fundamentals of studio practice, research and theory as they apply sculpture, installation and environmental art. Sculpture 2 & 3 encourages experimentation with a variety of creative problem solving strategies. Students are expected explore a wide variety of media and technical skills, while working in a series that explores a topic of their choosing and develops their portfolios.

 

Between Painting and Sculpture, UW-Milwaukee. 2006  Development and implementation of original course curriculum and syllabus. Between Painting and Sculpture encourages graduate and undergraduate students to explore the expansive possibilities of contemporary art practice in a mixture of seminar and studio based content. Students respond to reading selections, experience visiting artists, and research a topic in environmental, site specific, 3D interactive/new media, or installation art resulting in a class presentation, written project, and creative projects.

Project Assistant:

UW-Milwaukee, Interactive Space. 2005 Assisted Mat Rappaport develop a new digital arts and culture class on interactive space and computer control. Responsibilities included course development, assisting students with programming in MAX/MSP, Jitter, Cyclops, Stamp, BASIC, MIDI, and circuit design/construction.

 

UW-Milwaukee, Global Craft Culture. 2003-04 Assisted Yevgeniya Kanganovich create the new critical theory course for advanced Art Undergrads and Graduate Students. Responsibilities including Curriculum development, course evaluation, maintenance of the Course website, and lecture on critical theory involving native Cultures.

           

UW-Milwaukee, Visual Arts Sculpture. 2002-03, 04-05 Assist Graduate and Undergraduate students with instruction in foundry, metal welding and fabrication,woodshop, stone carving, and assemblage. Assist Foundations Instructors with use of the Sculpture areas woodshop. Responsibilities including ordering of materials, shop/tool maintenance, managing student help, foundry processes and materials, management of the Graduate studio shop, and organization of lab schedule.

Pevnick Design, Milwaukee WI. 2005-Present Responsible for the development and assembly of Graphical Rainfall machines, shop layout and maintenance,

Sculptor:

Wanner Sculpture Studio, Milwaukee WI. 2002-2005 Responsible for the assembly of over thirty large scale sculpture commissions and architectural elements. Design, modeling/sculpting, enlarging, casting, woodworking, and fabricating in bronze, steel, aluminum and stainless, casting in bronze, and aluminum, commission installation.

Exhibitor:

Tory Folliard Gallery, Palm Beach Contemporary 2004, Art Chicago 2003 Packing and transportation of visual art, set up, teardown and maintenance of booth exhibits.

President:

Allen Priebe Gallery Board, UW-Oshkosh: 1998-2000 Worked with national and international artists visiting and exhibiting at the Universities Visual Arts. Artists included Archie Rand, Xu Bing, Grace Hartigan, Marlene Phipps, Jack Levine, Noah Purafoy, Michel McMillan, Guerilla Girls, and Chris Ebigbo. Gallery responsibilities included curating and installing shows, public relations, organization of board meetings, and oversight of acquisitions for the University Art Collection.

Skills and Technical Qualifications

Lecturer: Creates interesting and informative lecturers on the topics of Studio Practice, Critical Theory, Art History, Art Criticism, Philosophy, Anthropology as it relates to creativity. Uses slides, video and Power Point as visual aids to enhance lectures.

 

Sculpture: TIG, MIG, gas, stick welding of bronze, aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and cast iron; gas and plasma cutting; brazing and soldering; bronze, aluminum and iron foundry, crucible furnaces, cupolas, patternmaking, inoculation, bonded sand molds, ceramic shell molds, traditional investment molds, green sand molds, wood molds, loose sand evaporation molds, and permanent iron chill molds; advanced patination techniques, advanced plaster piece mold making, urethane rubber mold making, latex rubber mold making, body casting; sheet metal fabrication; concrete form making and casting, plastic fabrication; composites, polyester resins, epoxy resins, urethane resins, lay-up and gel coat; tool making, lathe, end mill, tap and die; mixed media assemblage; clay figurative modeling; site and installation.

 

Woodworking & Functional Design: Experienced in advanced techniques and safety on the table saw, bandsaw, scrollsaw, radial arm saw, lathe, surface planer, jointer, router, shaper, and boring equipment. Advanced joinery and building techniques. Advanced jig and pattern making techniques. Antique refinishing and restoration; lamination; inlay; hardware; finishing techniques; plan drafting.

 

Metalsmithing: forming; stonesetting; soldering; hydraulic press; reticulation; investment casting; chain making; patination; surface enrichment and forging.
